Mayor officially opens new facilities at community charity Bulldogs BCA

The Mayor of Neath Port Talbot Cllr Chris Williams has officially opened a new extension at the Baglan Moors based charity Bulldogs Boxing and Community Activities.

Bulldogs BCA is a partnership between the registered charity Bulldogs Boxing & Community Activities and Port Talbot Amateur Boxing Club. The Charity delivers community focused activities while the Boxing Club delivers the sport.

The new extension, paid for by a mixture of grant aid and fund raising efforts, means Bulldogs now has a new café, therapy rooms and a main office.

Bulldogs Chief Executive Ceri Stilwell said the organisation was formed to give the people of Port Talbot and its surrounding areas a ‘fighting chance’ in life by supporting positive life choices.

She said at the extension opening: “We have come a long way from where our charity started in 2014 and we give a massive thank you to all those who made these new facilities possible.”

Bulldogs has a strong association with the UK’s armed forces community having backing from the Veterans’ Foundation and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

It also offers free gym membership to anyone who has served in the British Armed Forces as part of its commitment to the veterans’ community and also hosts a weekly Armed Forces Drop-In.

Bulldogs works with Neath Port Talbot schools and with young offenders as well.

At the extension opening, Mrs Stilwell and Air Commodore Robert Woods signed the UK’s Armed Forces Covenant to reaffirm its pledges to the Covenant (the Covenant is a Government backed promise which acknowledges those who serve or have served in the Armed Forces, and their families, should not be disadvantaged, but treated with fairness and respect).

Neath Port Talbot Council’s Armed Forces Champion Cllr Wyndham Griffiths said: “It’s good to see Bulldogs is a growing charity. It does tremendous work for armed forces veterans and their families and also for the local community generally.”
